Vintage Themed Chipboard Album

“Vintage”
It’s been one of them creative weeks where I have managed to get some partly completed projects finished. I do love the feeling of getting things out of the way, which is quite unusual for this time of the year ....
I adore altered art objects, adding in little elements of ‘items’ I like, or the person I am making the project for likes. The best part of creating these altered art books, is there is no preparation, you just go along as you please, adding whatever takes your fancy...
Page 1 & 2 (wording reads "and sophisticated")
The chipboard book is by “Collections Elements”, and the paper is also from the same designer.  The pages, including the front and back covers are painted in Gesso, then the edges inked and left to dry for 24 hours before applying Ivory, Creative Inspiration paint.  Creative Inspiration paint has the most stunning shimmering effect – I am so totally in love with these beautiful paints, they just add a little more personalisation to your projects.  Also, a little paint goes a long way... so brilliant value for money...
The front cover consists of a Maya Road chipboard flower, and bust.  The flower, I soaked in some warm water, gently prying open the layers and curling up the petals.  You can air-dry the chipboard flower, but as I always do batches ... I popped mine into a warm oven for half an hour.  I painted my now dry and distressed flower with Creative Inspiration paint in ‘beige’, inking the edges for that rustic/old appearance.  The bust I applied a strong adhesive and layered old sewing pattern papers over the chipboard, when completely dry, I peeled the paper from the chipboard bust, and then inked the edges...  It was a little plain for my liking, so a little tulle, fancy braid, a feather and rose was added.  I really wanted to add a necklace, but for the life of me I could not find my beading needle, and with the size of the beads that ‘needle’ was needed.  Might have to invest in a new needle...
Page 3 & 4 (wording reads "Truly Elegant" - "With Love & Adoration")
An array of various sized roses are scattered throughout the pages, some inked, some painted, some left plain.  Lots of trinket pieces adorn the pages, some of those items I have had for many, many years, waiting for the right time to be incorporated into ‘something’.
Of course, I had to use some of the Cheery LynnDesigns dies... the butterfly, olive leaves, grass border, fanciful flourish,  and pine leaves were used.   I used a Scrapware chipboard lamp post, along with a Kaisercraft wooden gate, on page 5...  lightly brushing Creative Inspiration paint across each, in ‘gold’ to highlight, but not detract away from the page.
The wording on each page is the tiny alphas by Kaisercraft, these can be so handy when needing to journal in small areas and you do not want to hand-write.
Page 5 & 6 (wording reads "Window of another era" - "& True Beauty")
Page 6, one of my family heirlooms of a doily my late Grandmother knitted many years ago.
Page 8, is a pocket for memorabilia, enhanced with old pattern paper, edged with inked laces, and pearls...
The images are all some of my very favourite of this era.... I wanted to keep them in a special album to ‘remember’.
Page 7 & 8 (wording reads "And, Pretty Delicate" - Treasured Always, Are Our Memories")
And... now I have itchy fingers to get creative in making a larger ‘book’!  One of my favourite things to create is memory books... as memories don’t always last forever, sadly.  These books are a wonderful way to keep a journal of your life - adding snippets of your life that may seem quite insignificant at the time, but later will possibly mean so much...perhaps not to ‘you’ personally, but to other family members....
So all I can do is urge those that read my blog, to contemplate the idea of a memory book to pass down... image how you would feel if you were given one.... I know all of us would treasure it so whole-heartedly.
So my promise to myself for 2012, which is almost upon 'me'.... is to create a larger memory book for my family, with memories of each month throughout the year.  Maybe, just maybe this will become an ongoing, yearly event.....
Happy creating .....
Sandie xx

Wow! I found your blog when I was visiting CI paints. They had a link and a photo. The photo was so great, I had to come see your work.

This book is awesome, as is your blog art work! I love the lace you used, your use of paints were wonderful. I like how you used them in a subtle way but they still had all of their incredible shimmer. The images in your book are so beautiful. I love them. I know someone who gives all different Vintage images away...many with Scripture. The blog is called Little Birdie Blessings. I'm sure you would enjoy the children images and such!

Thanks for sharing your art!
