Romance Mini Album - The Scrapbook Store

This month for The Scrapbook Store, I got to design with the beautiful Prima Marketing 'Cherry Blossom Collection' papers and elements.  Also, a gorgeous selection of 2Crafty chipboard elements which I painted in the Tim Holtz, Tarnished Brass paint.  This paint for me, has the most glorious luster and replicates a realist gold in colour, which captures a nice sheen in various light settings.  The Kaisercraft Rhinestone's and tiny half pearls were used to jazz up the chipboard pieces...

I used the Blue Fern Studio's Romance title which I picked up at a bargain price in The Scrapbook Store's 70% off sale. If you haven't checked out the sale pages, its well worth the visit with various categories such as 30%, and 70% off.  These sale pages are updated often, so always something new to browse, and a great bargain or ten to pick up. The Romance tittle was painted in white, dried and then a nice layer of 'Diamond' stickles added.  When painting this piece I made a point of only painting the top surface, as the darkness of the chipboard piece being left as is, really makes the title pop.

There are numerous pages, and below I have highlighted some.  Lace, rhinestones, pearls, with oodles of tags of various types - including using the Prima Marketing - Cherry Blossom, Journaling Note cards.  Left over flowers from the Cherry Blossom collection, I used to highlight some of the tags.  The larger page tags, I used left over pattern papers and a mixture of the Cherry Collection Washi Tape.  I adore, how this tape is transparent and the tape gives a different look depending on the colour cardstock and/or texture you use as a background.

Helmar - Altered Vintage Inspired Frame - Sketch Challenge

Today, I am here with my first creation as part of the Helmar Design Team - very exciting to be working with these amazing products. This week the focus for the Design Team is the Helmar 450 Quick Dry, a fantastic product with unlimited uses. Helmar 450 Quick Dry is especially fabulous to use in altered art creations - the time to dry is fast, no holding onto embellishments, and guaranteed not to budge once adhered.

Recently a friend and I were rummaging through a local second hand shop, and came across a pile of old, well worn, chipped and scratched frames.  At the bargain price of $2, they all came home with me!  

The process of altering began with a light sanding of the frame, and then two coats of Gesso, giving a light sanding after each application to attain a smooth surface.  Craft Glue was applied over the entire frame, and then  'Music Note' tissue paper, by Tim Holtz was placed over the frame - a damp paint brush was used to gently push the tissue paper into the crevices of the frame, and to remove any air-bubbles.  This step is not as daunting as it may seem, and I urge anyone who has not attempted to use this method to do so - lots of fun!

To achieve an aged appearance, 'Walnut Stain' distress ink was applied lightly over the entire frame. All embellishments, flowers, leaves, and die cuts were adhered using Helmar 450 Quick Dry.  It does not matter the size of the embellishment, or the material substance of the embellishment, Helmar 450 Quick Dry will adhere without any issues at all.

There is a great Helmar prize up for grabs this month, and to be in the running to win, all you have to do is create a project on this particular sketch.  It does not have to be a layout, it can be 'anything' from a canvas to a card. Just remember to state what Helmar product/s you used on your creation, and tag your photograph with your details.  I hope to see some familiar names join in, and have some sticky fun!
