Bit of Vintage...

The past few days I have been working on the above layout (between bubby, John and everything else happening at the moment).  It has turned out a little different to my original planned design, but I'm very happy with how the layout turned out.  I love the old world look, always have and no doubt always will - maybe its a little more altered book style?  I'm not sure, as I really don't know a great deal about altered books - other than they use a variety of objects in their creations.

The paper is KaiserCraft from the Timeless Collection, "Script", with brown card-stock - I'll I did was rip and tear, adding a tinge of 'Sepia' ink to age the paper. The paper tears I rolled up, using mod podge to glue in place. The little girl with wings is from my personal collection of old photographs.  I printed her onto card, coloured the dress, bow and socks in with a soft pink water colour pencil, and spritzed with glimmer-mist, added her wings, and some lace to the bottom of her dress.

The lace is from my personal collection, all I did was tea dye it softly to add an aged tint, then using a dabber, added a little sepia and brown ink. Then ... added some Kaiser flowers which had been spritzed with glimmer-mist, some leaves, bling and a journal note to the front.  Behind the photograph is a tag, which I wrote the story on and I'll add some ribbon a little later so it can be seen from the top of the page.

I had a wonderful time creating this page, and am now eager to do some more on my vintage paper bag album!!

Easter isn't far away....

Easter is not far away!!  I have been busy trying to find some time to make some Easter Greeting Cards to send back to friends and family at 'home'!!  For many years I have been collecting royalty free images off the internet and from old books.  This 'image' is one I found recently.
My plans for the day, making 'cards' for Easter...

The Start of Jesse's 8 X 8 Scrapbook Album...

I finally started Jesse's 8 X 8 album!!  Scrapbooking Haven has a challenge on at the moment using the colours of baby pink & blue, grey and brown.  It was a challenge as this page turned out nothing like I'd originally planned.  My originally planned piece had flowers all around one corner in sweet little sprays, hehehe!  Maybe its a good thing I didn't, with him being a 'boy'?  They would of course been blue though!!

Anyway, I searched for something grey and the only thing I could find was some cardboard (or chipboard?) stars from Creative Memories I had in my stash - out they came!  They looked a bit boring, so I took the plunge and used Glimmer Mist on them.  The photograph doesn't show the beautiful shimmer, and I can see myself addicted to Glimmer Mist.  So looking forwards to making some flowers and using the Glimmer Mist spray on them...

Having learned over the past few months to use colours within the photograph, I knew this photo had all the elements of the colours needed!!  I even like the pink background, which matches the hospital blanket perfectly.

I should add, I'm struggling with the size of my photographs to get my 'journaling' onto the page - so with this one page I have opted to journal on the other side (meaning, the next blank page).  Belinda suggested I do some flap type photographs where you lift the page and read the journal side underneath.  Brilliant idea, and I'm sure I'll implement that into the next few pages!

Busy Creating Cards....

I've been playing around with a pack of "Ambrosia" by "Basic Grey" - the pack came with 18 sheets of paper and numerous other items.  Each piece of paper was cut into 6, and I used one of these 'lots' to create as many cards as I could with this one lot of paper.
This is what I have managed to make...
Above, two gift tags...
and below, 4 gift cards...

and below are 6 normal sized cards...

All that was added to make the cards was a bit of imagination :-), a few paper flowers, some assorted coloured brads, ribbon and white card stock.  Also, I used a few rubber stamps from my collection. Scrapbooking in Geraldton are selling these card sets, and I must say "bargain" for what you can make out of one of the packets!!!

This afternoons creation

I've only just learned the art of making cards, so this is one of my very first ones.  I noticed when I took the photo that it may be a little off centre, but 'oh well'....
I am sure the recipient of the card won't even notice?
The only problem when I am creating, even a simple card - I pull 'everything' out to mix and match and end up in such a mess when finished.  I'm now sitting looking at my work area wondering how in earth I managed to make such a mess in making a card!  Now its a matter of working out whether I should clean up, continue making cards for awhile, going and making myself some dinner or jumping in the shower and washing my hair..... decisions!! LOL
My tummy is grumbling, so food, shower and then clean up a bit...

Time for a change.....

I love being creative, and recently 're-visited' something I started many years ago, scrap-booking.  The above photos is the start of my paper bag album, and so far its all coming together beautifully.  I'm really enjoying the journey it is taking me on, and especially the journaling side - even if I do struggle in making up titles, the journaling is easy.  Ever since I was 11 I have kept a diary, and once upon a time was very faithful in writing.  However, over the years with a more busier lifestyle my diary writing has suffered considerably.

The best part of this wonderful paper craft, is I am creating memories for my children and their children and possible future generations for when I am long gone.  I've often looked at odd photos my Mother had given me and thought to myself ......"it means nothing to me, I don't know who is in the photographs or if there is a story to tell".  Those particular photographs were thrown into an envelope marked "don't know".  Recently doing a scrap layout page on my Mother as a child, I re-visited that envelope - I took photographs with my mobile phone and sent them through to my Mum in South Australia asking her to tell me about the photographs (I picked two).  Mum has since told me the 'stories' behind these photographs and who they are of.... the photographs make more sense now, and now they 'mean' something to me!!

So the next time you're flicking through photographs and you come across one that is totally meaningless to you, ask a family member to tell you the 'story' behind the photograph - you may just be quite surprised at what you are told and how that photograph becomes more precious because of the story associated to it.

Now, I want my future generations to look at the photos and know exactly who was in the photograph, why they were in it and the occasion/story behind it being taken.

I'm on an interesting path and one I am enjoying....
