Perfect Day LO - Card and Tag - The Scrapbook Store

I'm back with a new layout for The Scrapbook Store, using the Melissa Frances - Classic Elegance Paper Collection, - Bits of Paper, and Strictly Business to create a masculine layout.   

The photograph was taken recently when Jesse got to spend sometime with his big sister, her husband and the two boys - he was eagerly awaiting them to arrive by relaxing on the foreshore wall.   I couldn't resist in taking a pile of snaps of him... and love his serious expression.

Many of the elements within the layout have been misted using Perfect Pearls, and Starburst Mists.  Papers were aged  via scrunching and distressing edges, adding lots of paper layers using the 6X6 Paper Pad. A little extra interest was added to the background paper using the Tile Texture stencil, and Texture Paste.  

 I always struggle doing masculine layouts, but am happy with this one...

My Story - Layout - The Scrapbook Store

....and another layout created for The Scrpabook Store, using Carta Bella 'So Noted' paper collection, and elements. Again, I used the Silhouette Cameo, to do the edge of the paper border, the leaves, and  title. 

The large bloom is from Green Tara, and The Scrapbook Store has a wonderful range of their products, which can be found 'HERE' - lots of new ribbons, flowers, lace, etc.  

Jesse just loves reading.  John and I have both read to him, right from a young age, often. He has developed a love of books and one is never far from him.  This photograph was taken in August last year, in his new Elmo outfit, sitting on the front porch reading.  When he realised I was taking photographs, he then started the circus act of posing and then doing cartwheels.  Little charmer he is!

The Prima Mask 'Dots' was used to create a little more interest on the background paper.  I love this stencil, one of my very favourites - I love dots! I don't think there is a single page in my mixed media journal that does not have dots :-)

'Precious' Layout - My Creative Sketches

I managed to complete my interpretation of the November,  My Creative Sketches 'sketch'.... at this wildly busy time of the year - I'm so proud of myself!  LOL  

A gorgeous sketch of course!  If you want to take part, you have 48 hours..... eeeep,

The photograph is of my son, Jesse-James as a newborn baby.  My journaling is very personal on the back of this particular layout, as this was an instance in 'my' life where I just couldn't believe I had become a Mother again.  It was a huge shock at discovering you're pregnant' at 41 years of age!! 

My children, John's children - were all grown up, flown the nest.... a baby?  GASP - how did that happen (please don't answer that lol)??  I had just entered into doing my Masters at University and was feeling so ill with the 'stress' of a massive study load.  My darling Mother joked to me 'you wouldn't be pregnant' - I laughed it off, but she brought me a pregnancy test.  Over coffee, I went off to the ladies and completed the test to humour her .... my Mother yelling out to me ... "well".  I didn't answer.  My jaw was stuck on the floor, and I was sitting staring at a positive pregnancy test - there was no two minute wait there, it just screamed 'positive'.  My Mother knew!  I was shocked!

I spent 48 hours in shock, and when John came home (FIFO worker) he sat on the lounge and grinned from ear to rear - so proud of himself - I can still see that expression in my mind.

Nine months later, our son entered the world - the most amazing and precious blessing ever.  Yes, he changed our life, and yes, our world was turned upside down, but I can only say that it has been the most beautiful  experience of our lives, and we are loving being 'older parents' - he's our world and our joy, and is our everything.

Jesse touches all that know him, with his quirky sense of humour, loving, and mischievous ways! LOL

Cherish Card and Love Kites Layout - The Scrapbook Store

This month for The Scrapbook Store I had a wonderful time in creating with The Scrap Cake, Sweet Childhood paper's.  The card was using left over bits and pieces from the collection, particularly the 'This and That' paper, and includes the Wooden Kaisercraft Word 'Cherish' - these are really quite gorgeous, and suitable for cards and layouts.

The image is one of my favourite stamp artists, Mo Manning, and is the 'Urchin with Bird', its a beautiful digital stamp!  This is actually one of the very first images I ever coloured, and I kept is as a keep-sake.

The Cherry Blossom die-cut was painted using a variety of colours from the Luminarte Silks Acrylic Glaze Paints. I've taken a few close up photographs, sadly anything with shimmer or metallic surface do not photograph properly.  The colour of the green is not dark as the photographs portray. These paints are extremely beautiful.

and, I also completed a layout for my son Jesse's album, again using The Scrap Cake's Sweet Childhood papers.  I have already created a mini album of this particular 'day at the beach', however really wanted to scrap a layout as well for memories sake.  Jesse loves kites. The papers were fussy cut, adding layers onto the A Child's Love paper, and to create a kite in Jesse's hand, I simply used a needle and thread, and sewed through the photograph to make it appear as if he is holding the kite.

Kaisercraft Wooden Words 'Love', was applied to the top of a journal tag, adding more dimension to the layout.  I love the colour of these wooden words, and yes, they are real wood. 

 The other kites were fussy cut from The Curiosity paper, and Mounting Tape was applied for dimension. Two little kite tails were created from left over papers.

At The Sea - With Helmar and The Robin's Nest

This week, Helmar have cross promoted with The Robin's Nest. The design team were given some fantastic products to play with, very spoilt! I created a 'Treasured Memories' Mini Album to store all the memories of my son's adventure to the beach, earlier this year. Only thing left to do, is place the journaling within.

This month Inkido have a challenge, the theme being 'an element of turquoise'.  I have watched this gorgeous blog for some time now, so thought I would enter this challenge.  Sadly, I missed their first challenge, must have been while we were moving!  Also, please do call over and see what the Inkido Design Team have created - some utterly amazing, and beautiful projects to be found. 

 

 The Robin's Nest have a beautiful variety of embellishments, fibres, ribbons, trinkets and papers.  Not to forget their amazing Dew Drops and Tear Drops, that I have used in this project.

 The Star Fish are also available from The Robin's Nest and really make the beach scene come alive. All embellishments such as shells, starfish, fish, paper, cardstock, and seaweed were adhered using 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  All jewelled items, such as the dew drops, were adhered using Gemstone Glue - Gemstone Glue is perfect medium for applying dew drops, and other trinkets to projects. Once the adhesive is dry (does not take that long at all) not only will the objects not budge, but the glue is transparent and not seen on a project.

Water-Logged Rub-On's were applied throughout the album - at times cutting in half to add a little character to the page.  Below are pages throughout the book, some have hidden journal areas, and even little pockets.

The background paper is called 'Aquamarine Glitter', and is seriously so beautiful.  Most of the album contains this paper, and cardstock to match.  All paper elements were affixed using Premium Craft Glue.

Sharing some personal photographs...a special part of my life...

"I love my blankie"

My son has Ptosis, due to trauma during his birth.... if you do not know what Ptosis is, you can read about it "here".  One of my favourite movie stars, Forest Whitaker has Ptosis, and each time I see him in action in a movie or series, I smile, as it reminds me so much of my son...  I am so self-conscious of taking photographs of him when his eye appears 'worse' (which is in sunlit conditions, and when he is tired).  Ptosis is part of him and I am by no means trying to 'hide' this aspect of him, as to me it just adds character.   My photo-taking-sessions more often than not consist of 100's of photographs being taken, just to get one shot I like.... NOT because of his eye, but because he is a 'bucket of worms' LOL!!!  Each time I attempt to take a photograph, I can guarantee you he will turn his head, or worse still, pick his nose...

So, I just wanted to share a special part of my life...my son, Jesse...with photos taken over the holiday period...

My Mums Visit

It was fantastic to have my Mother (Barbara) visit us here in Geraldton for 16 days. However, those 16 days vanished into thin air and we only managed to achieve half of what we set out to!!   Like John and I, Mum found Geraldton to be a wonderful place all around, and couldn’t believe the friendly people here.  Back home (Where John and I also originate from) is an Island (Weeroona Island, also known now as Port Flinders) and there are ‘no’ shops at all.  Adelaide is the decent shopping district and is a 3-4 hour drive from the Island, which Mum only does on the odd occasion.  Mum shopped till she dropped while she was here in Geraldton, and I have numerous parcels ready to post back home to her, otherwise she would have been hit with a massive excess luggage bill. LOL

Even though Jesse has been on a plane before, he was obviously too young to remember and was utterly fascinated with Grandma’s plane landing.  The face said it all, a little concerned, total listening in place, and of course the “WOW” factor.  It truly was priceless...

I just had to get some happy snaps of Mum coming off the plane, and I managed to do just that!!  Mum is the one at the top of the stairs in the above photograph.  Love that "Eco Friendly" green shopping bag in her hand in the below photograph :-)

Strangely enough, Jesse seemed to remember Mum, perhaps due to the fact that Mum sang the same song to him from a baby (when we were living on Island), and continued even though we lived so far away, via the phone.  Normally Jesse reacts (screams like being murdered) when a new face pops into say hello – but he chitter chatted away as if he remembered.  I was totally gob-smacked (now that is real Aussie lingo) ...

 And here they are sharing a ‘kiss’... one slobbery, gooey kiss... LOL

Yes, there are photographs of Mum eating her Nutella for breakfast, but I dare not show them in public – think she’d ring my neck.  Jesse loved sharing his breakfast with Grandma...

Mum managed to just get home (by a cats whisker) due to the strike action by Qantas, and was on the last plane out of Perth on Saturday.  I was hoping she would not be able to fly and get to spend more time with us ... but that was a bit selfish.  I loved the time we all spent together and I miss her very much...
